WARNING:
Today's post is going to be long, so if you are easily bored by fashion, photography and stylish people, then look away now. If this is in fact true, you probably shouldn't be here anyway, right?
Yesterday, I took my first trip to London on being back from Israel. The sun was shining, it was a Saturday; all in all, a recipe for crowded streets and tube delays. It's also my favourite time to go to London. The number of people blocking the streets doesn't deter me, it encourages me. The larger the quantity of people, the higher the proportion of weirdos and/or awesome people, and as a photographer slash anthropologist, I can't imagine anything more inviting.
So, as usual, I made my way straight from Marble Arch (where by bus stopped) to Charing Cross, and on ascending the escalator, was greeted by those eagerly anticipated scores of people earlier mentioned. Trying to ignore the tourists as best I could, for these, I can't abide, I waded my way into the centre of Trafalgar Square.
(I'm about to go off topic.)
There is something about foreign tourists that riles me up. I have no problem with people travelling round their own country, being a tourist and getting in the shot that I have been arranging to perfection, but when a tourist with their big, fat camera (yes, I have one too) stands in front of me and steals my photo, I get angry and have to walk away before I punch them in the face. I'm not a violent girl, but I reckon I could pack a good punch if my artistic perimeters were breached.
On the other hand, I do rather love it when people come up to me and say that I look nice, so thank you to the lovely young man, Mark, who came up to me and complimented me on my new pink shorts. It made my day.
Before anyone gets too bored, here are some pretty pictures of some lovely people I spotted yesterday, and why I loved them.
The hair, the shoes. Nuff said. Simple but lovely |
The socks and docs |
Again, simple, but stylish. Plus, great shoes |
These three were adorable - such lovely girls. I think their outfits looks lovely next to each other as well. |
Shoes, colour of top |
Gorgeous blue jumpsuit |
Glasses and attitude! |
Not a fan of the shoes, but the dress looked lovely on her |
The pretty shorts and biker boots - typical of me to like this |
Pulled up socks and crop top. Also, the hair cut and camera. |
The bag |
The brightness on the left, the docs and glasses on the right |
Dress and red lips |
I had to double take with this one. At first glance, I thought she was Helena Bonham-Carter. Unfortunately not. |
Amidst loitering around in Traf Square, I popped round the corner to the National Portrait gallery for a quick 2 hour gander. Alongside the Ida Kar exhibition, I also wanted to go to the downstairs gallery, which always has something great on (it was Mick Jagger). Both of these were great.
Ida Kar is an incredible photographer. Her work is mostly of artists, sculptors and musicians, all in black and white of course, but my favourite one is named Mother and Child, taken of artist, Hanja Kochansky and her daughter. Some think it's provocative, but I just see it as tender and comforting. What do you think?
After a lovely tuna and sweetcorn bagel in the cafe downstairs, I went back to my candids. I took 450 photos yesterday. This is 14 of them.
Please enjoy.
This is made of real plant. Mind blowing.
Have a lovely day, and thank you to all those gorgeous people who let me photograph them yesterday. It's strange when a weird girl in pink silk shorts comes up to you and asks to take your picture...
